The RACHA

Seems like every alternate weekend is spent at a wedding.. but this one was different.
Friends for 20 odd years.. the bf's bunch had an absolutely fantastic wedding in Phuket... on a little island off the main area... THE RACHA.

I heard about this place several years ago.. and the website pics were to die for! It was one of those beach resorts that you just stayed in.. and did absolutely nothing cos all you were supposed to do was relax, relax and relax. Away from the hustle and bustle of the little towns, shops, and basically every other form of civilisation.. well almost.

Getting to Phuket however was a challenge! Never trust budget flights.. like seriously!! Our flight was postponed TWICE, once several mths prior, and the second time just a few days before.. which already was an inconvenience cos there were 14 or so of us trying to get there at the same time to get on the chartered speedboat over to the resort! but that wasnt all... at the airport... our flight was due to leave at 10... come 10, our plane wasn't even in sight!!! it had not even arrived from the previous destination! so there we were delayed for another hour!

However, once we did reach Phuket.. things were all good! :)
The Racha is actually owned by a Singaporean so it really felt like home. And with the company of close family and friends....it was a perfect concoction for a magical weekend.

The place itself is beautiful. The whitewashed walls against the bright blue sky... the palm trees billowing in the wind...OH! and not to mention they even provide an ipod per room... complete with your preferred genre of music... dvd rentals... and leisure facility rentals...

Thats our cosy little villa....its actually the smallest of the lot... and unfortunately doesn't come with the personal pool... but honestly... since we were here in a big group.. we hardly even stayed in the rooms much... we were at the beach... boogie boarding.. (i think tts what its called).. at the pools playing with the babies.. and well.. just hanging out really...

and there of course comes the wedding... the setting was perfect... :)

there is something magical about staring into the horizon where sky and sea meet...

we had an amazing array of barbeques, local thai food, grilled seafood, cold dishes, and not forgetting the desserts! oh! and chanpagne, red wine and white wine by the bottles!!
and nothing completes a celebration like fireworks!! :)
What we can only see during national day in Singapore... here they have endless supplies of brilliant fireworks! Think it went on for a good 5 minutes! oh.. and firecrackers too! Banned in Singapore since eons ago... it was quite an experience to see and hear them go off!!

and to end off a wonderful evening.. as part of the thai tradition.. we set off the 'wish laterns'... its such a pretty sight to see 20 or so of these hot air lanterns drifting in the night sky, like little stars, making their way to the heavens..

xoxo,
Lin
