Romance in Bali

It was the most beautiful wedding I had ever attended. In fact, it really felt like a scene taken off a movie or drama serial. Everything was perfect. The weather, the location, the decor, the guests, and of course, the bride and groom.

It was the wedding of a really close friend of mine. The first of us in the group to marry. Then again, she was always the leader in most things. One day, Syl gave me a call and asked me to meet her as she had something to tell me. I half suspected what she was going to say yet with Syl, you never know. When I saw her, she flashed me that gorgeous rock and told me how M had proposed. It was really sweet how he tried to surprise her and planned everything. From the fib he told her, to the location and how she was totally caught off-guard. I was so excited for her! I always was the sucker for such romantic notions and acts. I love it how a guy bothers to plan and makes the effort to surprise. M is a very busy man with a demanding job and it was just awfully sweet how he took the time to not only plan the proposal but also customise the ring! Well, all that was a year ago. Earlier this year Syl asked us if we would fly to wedding to attend her wedding. She wanted to make sure or else it would have defeated the purpose. All of us secondary school mates readily agreed and so the wedding was planned.

I will do another entry on the amazing villa I stayed in during my trip, for now the attention shall be on how awesome the wedding was. Syl was very considerate in how she had everything planned so that their guests would have lots of fun and nobody was troubled out of their way for her. The only thing we did was to buy DFS alcohol. With at least 100 guests, you can imagine how much alcohol we drank that day.

In the morning it was raining heavily and knowing it was an outdoor wedding, I was quite worried for the couple. But my worries were unfounded as it was a glorious afternoon at 4pm when we gathered at her villa for the wedding. In fact the rain had left the weather feeling relatively cool. Plus it helped that we were so near the beach and the crashing waves.

The place was beautifully decorated. Syl's villa had a huge compound so with white canopies marked the dining area. Further up was the pool and tables like a beach bar but classier. To the right was the solmenisation area where petals laid the aisle. It was beautiful and very classy.

I guess because it was a wedding away from home, most of the guests were actually friends, so that made the whole wedding very lively and fun as everyone knew everybody. We had either seen each other before or we knew each other through school, university, college, etc. The common social circles made the whole atmosphere very warm and familiar.

During the dinner, there were moving speeches given by family and friends. I am such a sucker for these things, and on top of it, this was my close friend, that I was tearing. It was really nice as we all had sparklers lit whilst the happy couple walked in for the dinner. There were also performances put up by friends such as a song, poetry, and skits. Lovely. The couple themselves also did a dance which was very well performed. Syl was as usual very graceful and it was truly a royal moment.

Last but not least, we were treated to an awesome fireworks display. The moment was magical. All of us were standing by the pool, facing the beach, whilst the fireworks shot up in the sky before our eyes. I don't think I have ever been this close to fireworks. It was a long display and really spectacular. Amazing. Not to mention the after-party. Think alcohol, yappies, and awesome music.

With the first of us throwing such a "high standard" wedding, the benchmark is going to be a hard one to beat.

Congrats SYL & M. Thank you for having us share in the celebration of your love. It was truly the best wedding I had ever attended. *MUACKSSSSSSS* Love ya babe….

Germaine
