protect the shores, save the people...
3 whole weeks of pure torture i presume..
21 days without the iphone...
1260 hours away from proper civilisation...
and worst of all 75600 minutes away from good food!!
yes.. he LIVES to EAT! :)
so.. to make up for the lack of nutrition and awesome food...
my mum willingly cooked a lovely home cooked meal just for the MAN.
and it starts off with WARM EDAMAME - simple.easy.and completely fuss free. :)
love those little peas in a pod...

our famous japanese salad is up next.
This mix has been tried and tested countless times.. birthdays, Christmas parties, Japanese cook-outs.. This is a definite staple :) Alot of my friends will attest to that! Basically, the usual mix of salad.. but remember to add the key ingredients..
crab meat..(not the cheapo crab stick plasticky kind.. the good japanese chunky kind)
red pickled radish (i think).. its kinda crunchy..and really does add that extra zing
usual silken tofu..
and of course..the japanese sesame dressing.. it really is the BEST ever!! i would eat salad all day just for that dressing.. its kinda brown and creamy..probably can get it at isetan or liang court?

Chawanmushi is up next.. by this time.. I'm already stuffed... but yes.. cant turn down good food can we? my mum has improved on her chawanmushi.. the last time it tasted too much of chicken stock.. this time.. wayyy better. actually i found out that chawanmushi is really easy to make!! although I'm not sure what recipe my mum used.. all she said was egg, chicken stock, salt..the rest is optional :)
Ingredients: (makes 4) - got this off the Internet :P
3 eggs
1 1/2 cup dashi soup stock ( chicken soup stock is fine)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp sugar
1 chicken thigh, cut into bite-size pieces
4 shiitake mushrooms, thinly sliced, or 1/4 enoki mushrooms, chopped
8 slices kamaboko or narutomaki fish cakes

ok..where were we.. yes.. the mains were up.. we had beef steak, unagi and tempura! We had the most amazing onion tempura..yes. onions. its not the run of the mill onions that you get at NTUC/Cold Storage..these onions sold at 1.50 for ONE single onion bulb. ONE! but they are crazy sweet.. no sharp smells or taste... so much so that my bro who absolutely HATES ones had several.. yes its that good. The usual prawn, fish, aubergine, pumpkin and of course, enoki mushrooms made up the centrepiece.
and of course, that piping hot, fragrant bowl of japanese rice.. topped off with these Japanese flakes... think it consists of seaweed, tiny anchovies...whatever it was..it was good. :)

Drinks were not forgotten either... mum bought these lovely sake wines.. ume (plum) and grapefruit?... its the perfect girl drink.. light.. and sweet. and reallly yummy :) my grandma was commenting on how red my face was.. and i only had 2 glasses.. or maybe 3. :P

and as if we weren't already stuffed to the brim..dessert was served. cute little cups of yes.. japanese jello..kinda like konyaku.. but not as firm..sold at the japanese supermarts.. about 5 bucks a pop. mum added a little twist to it..with alcohol as expected, and the simple jello took on a fizzy tangy kinda sizzle. it was GOOD...
xoxo,
Lin
